Photosynthetic prokaryotes, which include oxygen-evolving photosynthetic cyanobacteria and
nonoxygen-evolving
photosynthetic bacteria, have played critical roles in various environments and continue to do so. These
organisms are important for our understanding on the basic mechanisms of biological activities such as
photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation, bioenergetics, cell differentiation, etc. They are also increasingly
important for biosynthetic biology research, using sunlight as an energy source to produce valuable products
and
contributing to CO2 mitigation strategy, etc.
Since 1973, the ISPP series of conferences have been the venues for the
international community working on
photosynthetic prokaryotes to meet each other and make exchanges over the latest research activities.
Following
the last conference held in Liverpool, UK, in 2022, the International Scientific Committee (ISC) of ISPP has
decided to organise the next ISPP meeting in China in 2025. The Local Organising Committee (LOC), in
coordination with ISC, will do the best to make this event a success. We’ll in particular make our effort to
attract young scientists, including students, postdocs, and junior researchers, to this meeting.
